◉ CONSERVATION AND SUSTAINABILITY LINE
Project: Policies, planning and management
Description: Interdisciplinary project focused on developing and analyzing policies, plans, planning instruments and actions aimed at natural areas of relevant tourist interest. Its goals comprise:
i. contributing to improve management and conservation policies focused on natural areas of relevant tourist interest;
ii. collaborating with initiatives by communities, organizations and people who live or work in natural areas of relevant tourist interest;
iii. supporting ecotourism promotion in natural areas of relevant tourist interest as post-extractive alternative;
iv. supporting the development and implementation of political, technical and legal guidelines for ecotourism development in the post-pandemic context.
Project: Education, culture, art and technology
Description: Interdisciplinary project focused on connections among science, education, art and technology, based on the appreciation of Brazilian multiculturalism. Its goals comprise:
i. developing pedagogical, technical, cultural and artistic proposals for natural areas of relevant tourist interest;
ii. contributing to the elaboration and/or improvement of public policies and other initiatives, with emphasis on, and starting from, local populations, tourists and professionals who work with natural areas, ecotourism and associated sectors;
iii. investigating innovative initiatives in ecotourism, heritage and conservation in the education, culture, art and technology fields, and the connections among them.
◉ PROTECTED AREAS’ MANAGEMENT LINE
Project: Visitation in Protected Areas
Description: Interdisciplinary project aimed at evaluating policies, plans, programs, projects and actions focused on managing visitations in protected areas. Its goals comprise:
i. collaborating in the evaluation and promotion of public use in protected areas;
ii. investigating the application and effectiveness of Public Use Plans (PUP);
iii. mapping ecotourism initiatives and their impacts on protected areas and on their surroundings;
iv. contributing to environmental interpretation and education initiatives in protected areas;
v. developing methods, techniques and instruments focused on monitoring and evaluating visitations.
Project: Conservation Units and their relationship with the surroundings
Description: Interdisciplinary project aimed at strengthening the management of protected areas by developing specific theoretical and methodological efforts focused on protected areas’ management instruments. Its goals comprise:
i. improving instruments used to manage protected areas;
ii. investigating conflicts involving indigenous peoples, local populations and communities living under socio-environmental oppression condition;
iii. building databases;
iv. preparing social, economic and environmental diagnoses;
v. developing methods, techniques and instruments focused on monitoring and evaluating Management Plans;
vi. improving the effectiveness of Management Plans and their sectoral plans.
