Strengthening the capacity of UNIRIO for improved outcomes in tropical health

In the year 2015, the Federal University of the Rio de Janeiro State (UNIRIO) submitted a proposal to the Brasilian Ministry of Education (CAPES) to create the first postgraduate Program in Brasil focused in Ecotourism and Conservation (PPGEC). As part of this proposal, UNIRIO suggested that the Program would have international partners.

Following the approval of that proposal, in July 2016, the Chancellors of UNIRIO and the University of the Sunshine Coast (USC) signed an international agreement to cooperate with technical and scientific development.
As part of this MoU, in 2017 UNIRIO sent to Australia PPGEC’s coordinator, Professor Sinay, to start working with the director of the Department of International Development of USC, Professor Carter, on the first joint program between USC and UNIRIO.
Through this partnership, a proposal of a multi-year Program that aims at strengthening UNIRIO’s capacity to contribute with the decline of mosquito-transmitted diseases was submitted and approved by the Australian Department of Foreign Affairs and Trade (DFAT).
In this context, fifteen fellows from UNIRIO were invited to participate in a five-weeks Program that will be held in USC in 2018. Details of this Program are described in this document.
