The PPGB has 3 lines of research, both of which are within the Library, Culture and Society concentration area.

The Library, Culture and Society Concentration Area encompasses the theoretical and applied issues that emerge from the practice of Library Science in different historical moments, in the context of diverse cultural communities and in multiple spaces of social interaction. It examines the training of professionals, their practices, their skills and their work environments. Research institutions that promote access to knowledge and its dissemination, considering their organizational management and the public policies that regulate them. It studies users, their needs and their information behavior. It analyzes the documents in their materiality and informational content, placing them in the networks of production, circulation and use of information. Evaluates and proposes techniques and technologies for the treatment, organization and representation of human knowledge, considering the theoretical-methodological bases of the area, contemporary trends and current technological standards.

◉ Line 1: Knowledge Organization, Information Processing and Infocommunication Practices

It involves theoretical and applied studies on techniques and instruments for selection, organization, treatment, recovery, access and appropriation of information in different communities, with multiple cultural dimensions and in different social contexts, considering the theoretical-methodological bases of the area, contemporary trends and current technological standards.

◉ Line 2: Scientific Communication, Open Science and Metric Studies

It involves theoretical and applied studies on techniques and instruments for the production, dissemination, circulation, evaluation, access and use of information in different scientific communities, with multiple epistemic dimensions and in different academic contexts, considering the theoretical-methodological bases of the area, trends current technologies and current standards.

It involves theoretical and applied studies on techniques and instruments aimed at the management of information units, innovation and sustainable practices in libraries from different communities, with multiple cultural dimensions and in different social contexts, considering the theoretical-methodological bases of the area, the contemporary trends and current technological standards.
