The Postgraduate Program in Librarianship (PPGB) arises from the perception of a gap in in-depth studies in the field of Librarianship in order to enable these professionals to investigate problems arising from the daily life of the librarianship in different libraries, centers and information units, considering the theoretical, technical, methodological and practical questions specific to the field of Librarianship.
The Professional Master's Degree Program is part of the PPGB and was approved by CAPES in July 2011, the month in which the 100th anniversary of the UNIRIO Library School was celebrated, and began in 2012. The first group was created with twelve students, and annually a new selection process takes place.
The PPGB has two lines of research, both of which are within the field of librarianship and society.
- Librarianship, Culture and Society (BCS): Theoretical and applied studies on the interfaces and connections between document, information and technology, considering the products, competences, policies and contexts that characterize Librarianship, its institutions, its professionals and its audience.
- Knowledge Organization and Representation (ORC): Theoretical and applied studies on the instruments, technologies and procedures that characterize the treatment of information and documents, considering the different dimensions and the different social and historical contexts that involve the ORC.
