Rules for writing master's Dissertation and ph.d. Thesis of the ppgan
RULES FOR WRITING MASTER'S DISSERTATION AND Ph.D. THESIS OF THE POSTGRADUATE PROGRAM IN FOOD AND NUTRITION OF UNIRIO
The rules below were set forth and approved by the PPGAN committee on May 14, 2019.
For the preparation of the dissertation or thesis, the student must follow the following standards established by the Graduate Program in Food and Nutrition

Rules for writing the dissertation/thesis - standard format
The standard format of PPGAN-UNIRIO master's dissertations and theses and doctorate must contain the information as follows in the dissertation and thesis preparation manual available on the PPGAN page.
Rules for writing the dissertation/thesis - scientific article format
The student of the master's and Ph.D. course at PPGAN may choose to defend his dissertation or thesis in the form of an article, provided that it meets the following specifications:
Masters dissertation:
- General title (in Portuguese and English);
- Abstract and Keywords;
- General introduction in Portuguese;
- At least 2 (two) chapters written in scientific article format:
- 1. At least one of the articles must be an original article that includes results and discussion of the experiments;
- 2. State-of-the-art/technical literature review articles can also be used to compose the dissertation;
- 3. If the written chapters do not include a bibliographic review article, a classic literature review in Portuguese must be presented after the general introduction;
- General conclusion;
Language: The articles that make up the dissertation can be written in English or Portuguese. There may still be parts in each of these languages.
Formatting: The selected journal must be informed in the dissertation. The articles must be formatted according to the norms of this journal, which must belong to strata from A1 to B2 of the CAPES Food Science area, as provided for in the specific norms for obtaining a Master's degree in the PPGAN. The remaining parts of the dissertation must be formatted according to the norms for writing a dissertation in the standard format.
PhD Thesis:
- General title (in Portuguese and English);
- Abstract and Keywords;
- General introduction in Portuguese;
- At least 3 (three) chapters written in scientific article format:
- 1. At least two original articles that include results and discussion of the experiments;
- 2. State-of-the-art/technical literature review articles can also be used to compose the thesis;
- 3. If the written chapters do not include a bibliographic review article, a classic literature review in Portuguese must be presented after the general introduction;
- General conclusion;

Language: The articles that make up the thesis The articles that make up the dissertation can be written in English or Portuguese. There may still be parts in each of these languages.
Formatting: The selected journal must be informed in the thesis. Articles must be formatted in accordance with the norms of this journal, which must belong to strata A1 to B1 of the CAPES Food Science area, as provided for in the specific norms for obtaining a Ph.D. degree at PPGAN. The remaining parts of the thesis must be formatted according to the rules for writing thesis in the standard format.
