Identification of Immunological Markers in Patients Who Develop Hypersensitivity Reactions Due to Deficient Regulatory Mechanisms: Autoimmune, Allergic, and Chronic Viral Infectious Diseases
It is believed that allergies and autoimmunity represent failures in regulatory mechanisms in genetically predisposed individuals who mount immune responses against environmental, dietary, or self-antigens. The course of these disorders is highly variable and likely influenced by environmental events that epigenetically modulate the expression of key proteins involved in immune homeostasis. In this context, our team is dedicated to studying the impact of environmental factors (such as stress, vitamins, and obesity) on the functional profile of T and B cells from patients suffering from allergies and autoimmune diseases, with a particular focus on multiple sclerosis and neuromyelitis optica spectrum disorders—both autoimmune demyelinating diseases of the central nervous system.
