Analysis of genetic factors involved in the development of neurodegenerative diseases during aging

This project is part of a broader network of collaborative studies in partnership with the Center for Studies and Research on Aging (CEPE) of the Instituto Vital Brazil. Brazil has undergone a demographic transition from a young population to one that resembles those of developed countries, bringing new public health challenges. Increased life expectancy is accompanied by a rise in complex, chronic-degenerative, multifactorial diseases, particularly neurodegenerative ones. Genetic advances have enabled the identification of genetic factors associated with the phenotypic expression of these conditions, primarily through the study of genetic polymorphisms and their interaction with environmental variables. This project applies an integrative approach to  analyzing genetic and non-genetic (environmental) risk factors to understand better the mechanisms behind aging and the development of neurodegenerative diseases.
