As Ciências Sociais e as Questões da Informação

Na contemporaneidade, a mediação da imprensa passou a fazer parte da trama dos discursos e da própria ação política, constituindo-se em cena fundamental não apenas da vida pública, mas também da vida privada. Nas hierarquizações, acomodações, silenciamentos e deslocamentos de sentido que se inscrevem na materialidade da linguagem (verbal ou imagética) vão sendo construídas interpretações que poderão vir a estabilizar-se no imaginário social, conferindo aos acontecimentos a condição de históricos e memoráveis. Funcionando em diferentes dimensões temporais simultaneamente, ao mesmo tempo em que nos oferecem uma interpretação da atualidade, os jornais ressemantizam o passado e selecionam aquilo que vai ser lembrado no futuro. Neste trabalho, resultado de uma pesquisa em andamento, procuro compreender os processos discursivos que sustentam alguns dos efeitos de sentido suscitados pelas narrativas jornalísticas acerca de um acontecimento recente, o resgate dos reféns das Farc, procurando flagrar o trabalho do discurso sobre o acontecimento, as identificações e as redes de memória a que é filiado, antes mesmo de sua ocorrência.

As a research program, Information Science is proposed as a Social Science, as an investigation of the present, seeking to understand the place of information actions in the context of social relations and actions, in a complex scenario that involves the double concepts of information regimes and policies. At the same time, by characterizing the contemporary domains in which information is constituted as a theme, as a symptom and as an issue, this work aims to outline the position and the epistemological distribution of the knowledge that questions and reconstructs it, in some perspective and dimension.

Documento e Poder: uma Arqueologia da Escrita

Apresenta problematização e resultados parciais de estudo que se insere em debate em curso na Ciência da Informação, envolvendo a delimitação de seu objeto central: a informação – em suas variadas conceituações – ou o documento – em sua materialidade, da ordem da institucionalidade e gerador de efeitos sociais (Frohmann). A pesquisa, de cunho teórico-conceitual, testa o conceito/hipótese de modo de acreditação e distribuição social de saberes, fundado na divisão de Nora entre sociedades de memória e sociedades de história. Analisa a constituição, os funcionamentos e as representações imaginárias da escrita, como marco divisório e base das sociedades históricas – ou de arquivo – e fundamentando o efeito-documento em processos de legitimação, autoridade e regimes de verdade. o estudo busca as bases da persistência do documento nos processos dominantes de acreditação e distribuição social de saberes – e poderes – no ocidente, buscando contribuir, assim, para o adensamento desse relevante debate no campo. Apresenta os avanços de pesquisa obtidos pelos aportes teórico-conceituais da escola francesa da análise e teoria do discurso, que recoloca a dimensão material e histórica do sentido, rompendo com a ilusão da transparência da linguagem – fundamento do efeito-informação (evidência), mito fundador do campo informacional.

Abstratc:
This article presents the construction of a research topic and the results to date of a study that is part of a current debate in the field of Information Science, involving the delimitation of its core subject matter: information – in its varied concepts – or the document – in its materiality, as part of the institutional order and engenderer of social effects (Frohmann). This study, of a theoretical-conceptual nature, tests the concept/hypothesis of the mode of accreditation and social distribution of knowledge (savoir), grounded in Pierre Nora’s distinction between memory societies and history societies. It analyzes the constitution, functioning and imaginary representations of writing, as a landmark and pillar of historical – or archive – societies, and lays the foundations of the document in processes of legitimation, authority and regimes of truth. This study looks for for the bases for the persistence of the document in the dominant processes of accreditation and social distribution of knowledge (savoir) – and power – in the western world, and thus contributes to enriching this important discussion within the field. It also demonstrates the progress made in research through the theoretical-conceptual contributions of the French school of discourse analysis, which restores the material and historical dimension of meaning, dispelling the illusion of the transparency of language – the basis of the information effect (evidence) and the founding myth of the information field.

A Memória Histórica Numa Perspectiva Psicossocial

Discute-se, inicialmente, a retomada do estudo da memória por parte da psicologia social e o conseqüente processo de constituição de uma perspectiva psicossocial da memória, a partir de contribuições sociológicas e psicossociais pioneiras e de suas releituras contemporâneas, bem como de aportes mais recentes da história e da psicologia cognitiva naturalista. Em seguida, caracteriza-se sucintamente a psicologia social da memória em termos do reconhecimento de cinco princípios unificadores do seu campo de estudo, do mapeamento deste campo em sete diferentes instâncias de fenômenos da memória e da utilização do termo memória social como um conceito “guarda-chuva” para designar o inteiro conjunto de tais memórias. Deste conjunto, destaca-se, para o restante do texto, o estudo das memórias históricas, que envolve, além da consideração das demais instâncias – coletivas, comuns e pessoais – que entram em sua composição, uma discussão do processo pelo qual os documentos, em sentido amplo, ensejam a emergência dos fenômenos psicossociais de memória histórica documental. Finalmente, são apresentados os requisitos da psicologia social para a pesquisa das memórias históricas, aos quais é incorporada a pesquisa das memórias geracionais. Conclui-se que, em seus esforços para se manter não-psicologista e não-sociologista, a perspectiva psicossocial contribui para que as extremas riqueza e complexidade dos fenômenos da memória em sociedade possam emergir, notadamente no que se refere à memória histórica.

Abstract
Initially, this work discusses the resumption of the study of memory by social psychology and the consequent process of building a psychosocial perspective of memory, based on pioneering sociological and psychosocial contributions and their contemporary interpretations, as well as on more recent historical and naturalist cognitive psychological contributions. It then gives a brief summary of social psychology of memory, in terms of the recognition of five unifying principles of this field of research, mapping the field in seven different instances of memory phenomena and the use of the term social memory as an “umbrella” concept to designate the entire set of such memories. From this set, the remainder of the text focuses on the study of historical memories, which involves both a consideration of other instances – collective, common and personal – which form part of its composition, and a discussion of the process by which the documents, in a wider sense, anticipate the emergence of psychosocial phenomena of documentary historical memory. Finally, it presents the requirements of social psychology for the study of historical memories, which include the study of generational memories. It concludes that in an effort to remain non-psychologist and non-sociologist, the psychosocial perspective contributes to the emergence of extremes of wealth and complexity of the phenomena of memory in society, particularly in relation to historical memory.

A Memória da Divulgação Científica: um Discurso Informacional

Este artigo traça uma compilação das diferentes esferas de divulgação científica, tendo por pressuposto uma compreensão alargada dessa atividade, o que lhe permitiu observar distintos objetos de análise. Admitindo a concepção de discurso socialmente construído, analisa diversas manifestações discursivas que se voltam para difundir a produção do conhecimento academicamente institucionalizado. Essa difusão dirige-se a grupos sociais de fora da academia, ou para grupos que não pertençam ao campo do conhecimento que esteja sendo divulgado. Para tal, é preciso compreender que as representações simbólicas se constroem na cultura em que os grupos sociais se formam e no discurso que a constitui e que por ela é também constituído. Os resultados, até o momento, apontam para uma divulgação que sedimenta os cânones paradigmáticos tradicionais do fazer científico, a partir dos agentes sociais que têm, pela academia, a sua fala validada.The Memory of Scientific Divulgation: an Information Discourse

This article outlines a compilation of the different spheres of scientific divulgation, based on the premise of a wider understanding of this activity in which distinct objects of analysis can be observed. Assuming a concept of discourse which is socially constructed, the article analyzes various discursive manifestations which seek to divulge the production of academically institutionalized knowledge. This diffusion is directed at social groups outside the scientific body, or groups which do not belong to the field of knowledge that is being divulged. For this, it is necessary to understand that symbolic representations are constructed in the culture in which social groups are formed, as well as in the discourse which forms this culture and is also formed by it. The results thus far point to the divulgation which is rooted in the traditional paradigmatic cannons of scientific practice, based on social agents that have their speech validated by the scientific body.
A Temporalidade como Constituinte do Documento de Arquivo: Problematizando Relações Entre os Contextos de Geração, de Tratamento e de Uso dos Documentos

A trajetória do saber arquivístivo é constituída por três principais visões, nas quais os conceitos de documento e de informação disputam a centralidade do campo e mesmo o de ser o objeto de estudo da Arquivologia. Sob esta disputa encontramos diferentes entendimentos do que seja informação, no que concerne a sua materialidade ou imaterialidade. Primeiro trata-se da noção de documento, em seus contextos de formação, de guarda e de uso. A partir da noção de temporalidade de Heidegger, conforme apropriada por Ricoeur para epistemologia da História, formula-se um arranjo para pensar a temporalidade enquanto constituinte do documento de arquivo. Um segundo auxílio é tomado em Buckland e Frohmann. Buckland reexamina o conceito de documento em Otlet e Briet e vê no ato de constituir arquivo aquilo que faz com que algo se torne documento. Já para a noção de informação toma-se por base Frohmann que, ao examinar as bases institucionais que condicionam a construção da informação, aponta a força do passado no presente como estabilizadora dos significados das informações, afirmando o caráter material das práticas documentárias que as constituem e os efeitos que produzem. A noção de materialidade do documento, e da suposta imaterialidade da informação aparecem, a partir deste esquema e contrapontos, como resultantes de uma tensão, na articulação presente, entre o passado a preservar e o futuro previsto e temido. Deste modo, seriam as tensões das intenções presentes de manter e de prever que constituiriam tanto os documentos, como a informação.

The history of archival knowledge consists of three main viewpoints, in which the concepts of document and information vie for the position of center of attention and object of study of Archivology. Within this dispute we find different views of what constitutes information. First is the concept of the document, in its contexts of compilation, maintenance and use. Based on Heidegger’s concept of temporality, as it is used by Ricoeur for the epistemology of history, an arrangement is formulated in which temporality is seen as a component of the archive document. A second support is found in the works of Buckland and Frohmann, in which Buckland reexamines the concept of the document in Otlet and Briet, and sees, in the act of constituting an archive, the action that causes something to become a document. For the concept of information, we based our understanding on the ideas of Frohmann who, examining the institutional foundations that determine the construction of information, points to the strength of the past in the present as a factor which stabilizes the meanings of the information, affirming the material nature of the documentary practices that comprise it, and the effects they produce. The concept of materiality of the document, and the supposed immateriality of information emerge, based on this schematic model and counterpoints, as the results of a tension, in the present articulation between the preservation of the past and the predicted and feared future. Hence the tensions of the present goals to maintain and predict what constitutes documents, and information.

Memória, Representações Sociais e Cultura Imaterial

Reflete sobre memória social e sua articulação com as representações sociais e o papel desta como mediadora na construção dos sentidos das manifestações da cultura imaterial. Toma como exemplo o estudo das festas comunitárias, uma prática cultural realizada no município de Estrela/RS, para demonstrar como são produzidos, transmitidos e usados os saberes da tradição e da cultura local, envolvendo diferentes agentes sociais e a rede de sociabilidade responsável pela construção da trama de informações e da partilha das significações que transitam no espaço dos festejos. Nesse processo, as representações sociais exercem a mediação produzida no compartilhamento dos sentidos, como matéria-prima constitutiva da cultura imaterial e da intangibilidade da memória social.

This paper reflects on social memory, its articulation with social representations, and its role as mediator in the construction of meanings derived from manifestations of immaterial culture. It takes as an example the study of community celebrations, cultural practices which take place in the municipality of Estrela/RS, to demonstrate how knowledge of tradition and the local cultural is produced, transmitted and used, involving different social agents and the network of sociability responsible for the construction of an information network and the sharing of meanings that permeate the space of the celebration. In this process, social representations exercise the mediation produced in the sharing of meanings, as constitutive raw materials of immaterial culture and of the intangibility of social memory.

Abstratc
In contemporary times, the mediation of the press has become part of the fabric of discourses and of political action itself, constituting a fundamental scene not only of the public, but also of the private life. Within the hierarchies, accommodations, silences and displacements of meaning inscribed in the materiality of language (verbal or imagetic), interpretations are being constructed that could be established in the social imaginary, conferring a historic and memorable condition to events. Functioning in different temporal dimensions simultaneously, while at the same time offering us an interpretation of the present, newspapers redefine the past and select what will be remembered in the future. In this paper, the result of ongoing research, I seek to understand the discursive processes that sustain some of the effects of meaning generated by journalistic narratives about a recent event, the rescue of the FARC hostages, attempting to capture the work of discourse on this event, and the identifications and networks of memory with which it is associated, even before it occurred.

A Documentação Rediviva: Proleômenos a uma (Outra) Filosofia da Informação

Resumo
Uma filosofia da informação fundamenta-se em uma filosofia da documentação. A concepção de Nunberg sobre o fenômeno da informação anuncia um deslocamento do foco na questão “O que é informação?” para uma investigação crítica das fontes e da legitimação da própria questão. As analogias entre a desconstrução que Wittgenstein faz das abordagens filosóficas ao significado e uma correspondente desconstrução das abordagens filosóficas à informação sugerem que como a informatividade de um documento depende de certos tipos de práticas a que este é submetido, e como a informação emerge como um efeito de tais práticas, as práticas documentárias são ontologicamente primordiais à informação. A informatividade dos documentos, portanto, encaminha-nos às propriedades das práticas documentárias. Tais propriedades encaixam-se em quatro categorias gerais: sua materialidade; seus lugares institucionais; os modos como são socialmente disciplinadas; e sua contingência histórica. Dois exemplos do alvorecer da ciência moderna, que contrastam as práticas documentárias escolásticas dos filósofos da natureza da Europa continental com as de seus pares na Inglaterra da época da Restauração, ilustram a riqueza dos fatores que devem ser levados em conta para compreender como os documentos se tornam informativos.

A PHILOSOPHY OF INFORMATION IS GROUNDED in a philosophy of documentation. Nunberg's conception of the phenomenon of information heralds a shift of attention away from the question "What is information?" toward a critical investigation of the sources and legitimation of the question itself Analogies between Wittgenstein's deconstruction of philosophical accounts of meaning and a corresponding deconstruction of philosophical accounts of information suggest that because the informativeness of a document depends on certain kinds of practices with it, and because information emerges as an effect of such practices, documentary practices are ontologically primary to information. The informativeness of documents therefore refers us to the properties of documentary practices. These fall into four broad categories: their materiality; their institutional sites; the ways in which they are socially disciplined; and their historical contingency. Two examples from early modern science, which contrast the scholastic documentary practices of continental natural philosophers to those of their peers in Restoration England, illustrate the richness of the factors that must be taken into account to understand how documents become informing.
